Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has been removed from his post. This is reported by Chinese state media. The minister did not appear in public for a month.
According to Chinese media, the top governing body of China’s parliament voted for Qin Gang’s resignation. The minister has not appeared in public for a month. His last public appearance was on June 25, when he met with officials from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Russia in Beijing. The disappearance has long fueled speculation about Qin Gang’s future.
Qin Gang was close to Chinese President Xi Jinping and had been foreign minister since last December. Before that, he was the ambassador to the USA for a short period. Why Qin Gang was removed from his position has not been disclosed. He has now been succeeded by his predecessor, Wang Yi.
