Adrien Trebel (31) has no future at Anderlecht. The Frenchman’s expiring contract will not be extended, said Jesper Fredberg. “He no longer fits into our sporting plans,” says the Dane. Trebel, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, will remain part of the first team until the end of the season.
Anderlecht and Adrien Trebel separate after this season. The 31-year-old Frenchman is in his last year of contract and that will not be renewed, says sporting director Jesper Fredberg. “He’s no longer part of our future sporting plans,” said Fredberg. “There are several factors that we took into account, his salary being one of them.”
Under the previous board, Trebel received a new five-season contract in 2018, coupled with a solid salary. Under Vincent Kompany, Trebel fell out of favor. After spending some time in the B squad, he was loaned out to Swiss side Lausanne last season. Felice Mazzu fished the midfielder back out but a shoulder injury earlier in the season put him out for months. Trebel is currently out with a hamstring injury. “It is intended that he will remain with the first team until the end of this season,” said Fredberg. No decision has yet been made on the future of Lior Refaelov, who also ends his contract in June. “We have already spoken to Refaelov and his entourage. There must be clarity by the end of the season.”
