At least 37 people died and 21 were injured when a residential complex collapsed in Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon. Five victims are in serious condition. This is evidenced by the new balance of fire protection and local authorities.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, a four-story residential building collapsed and fell on another one-story building.
The search for survivors began on Sunday. At least 16 people died and five were seriously injured. A 3-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were also among the dead. “The situation is under control, the fire brigade is working to ensure that no one remains under the rubble,” assured the governor of the Primorsky region.
It is not yet known why the building collapsed. This is not the first time this has happened in Douala. In 2016, five people died during the collapse of a residential building in the city. In June of the same year, the authorities identified 500 buildings in the city that are at risk of collapse.
