Tensions are high on the Dutch version of Blind Married. The participants Martijn (50) and Nicole (47) were together, but less than two weeks later their marriage is already on the brink. For example, things went wrong on their honeymoon: After a heated argument in the car, Nicole literally pulled the handbrake. Sender RTL reacted “shocked” to the incident.
For the viewers of “Married at First Sight” – as “Blind Married” is called in the Netherlands – it is already clear: the marriage between Martijn and Nicole will not last. In the previous episode, they had already fought and harsh words were spoken. Martijn is aware that he and his wife are “two roosters” and wanted to “say that it doesn’t go together”. “You don’t understand me, I don’t understand you. I’m sorry I hurt you. Can we just get on with it?” he asked. Nicole responded that she actually felt “hurt” and felt she was “put away as the bitch who corrects him.”
Meanwhile, the situation has not improved, as it turned out over lunch in an Italian village. “I was a bit embarrassed because I realized it wasn’t quite over yet. But I did my best to get over it,” Nicole confided to the camera. Martijn also felt uncomfortable. “We both felt, ‘Something isn’t going right here.’ Then you talk about small talk, but in the end you also zoom in on the feeling. At least that’s what I do then. And then I felt like we didn’t quite find each other.”
The couple decided to continue to the coast. But that didn’t happen in the end: During the car ride, another argument broke out, which led to Nicole getting out of the car in the middle of the street. She was so shocked by Martijn that she no longer wanted to sit in the car with him and pulled the handbrake. “Out of the blue he suddenly said that it had been clear for a long time that I was not his match. And if I could have fun for a few more days. I was actually crying before he started screaming so loud I yelled at him to stop. He was very difficult there, he didn’t want that, so I then – at a safe point – pulled the handbrake.”

No eye contact
When asked to answer together, the pair didn’t look at each other. “I have no idea what happened here. We had a lovely morning, we snuggled up in bed. Apparently I did everything wrong. It pains me that he seems to have already pulled the plug. I’m literally sick of it,” Nicole said emotionally.
When Martijn pointed out a moment when he wasn’t allowed to use Nicole’s sunscreen, the bomb went off again. “At a certain point it gets a bit childish when you give all kinds of examples, like she wants to show me Amsterdam while I want to show her Eindhoven,” says Martijn. After that, Nicole was done and left. She wished her husband “a safe journey home”.
