Adele (34) scared her fans at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. During her performance, the singer shared a “disturbing” memory from her childhood. Her late father, Mark Evans, once pulled a garbage bag over her head. “But it was with good intentions,” she quickly clarified.
“One of my fondest childhood memories is when my dad – which was rare – picked me up from my mum and introduced me to my grandparents with a garbage bag over his head.” But she soon added that her fans shouldn’t take it too seriously, according to The Sun . “It was with good intentions. Bless his soul, I love him.” She continued, “He actually surprised me by showing me on the doorstep of her house and putting a garbage bag over my head as if I was being ‘delivered.’ My grandma was so surprised and happy to see me. It was absolutely amazing.” She understands the shocked reactions of her fans. “Sometimes when I talk about him, I don’t know if it’s funny or not.”

Her fans therefore know that the British singer had a very difficult relationship with her father for years. The two were at odds. Mark left his family when Adele was three and was little involved in her upbringing after that. Ten years later he was struggling with a severe alcohol addiction. “I was a bad father at a time when she really needed me,” he admitted to The Sun at the time. “I drank two liters of vodka and seven or eight beers every day.” The singer and her father are estranged. But things went completely wrong when Mark revealed a little too much about her personal life in an interview. Adele cut off contact. “Mark always hoped Adele would be okay,” a source told The Sun. Mark died of complications from colon cancer in 2021 at the age of 57.
