Police have arrested a 34-year-old man after he died in suspicious circumstances in Antwerp’s De Conink Square. The victim is a 46-year-old man from Lille. he had been stabbed. Gunshots had also been heard earlier on nearby streets. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating the murder.
The victim, a 46-year-old man, got out of his car last night at De Conink Square in Antwerp, not far from the main train station. He stumbled a little further and fell. Paramedics rushed to the scene but were unable to help him. A man was stabbed with a knife and seriously injured.
Shortly before that, at about 7pm, the police received a call from someone who would have heard gunshots on Breda Street, north of Antwerp, a little further on. Police rushed to the scene, but the investigation did nothing immediately. The court is now investigating whether the two facts can be linked.
Police arrested a suspect last night. A 34-year-old male whose possible role in the incident is still under investigation. The public prosecutor’s office has requested an investigating judge for the murder.
