In Australia, the portrait of the British Queen Elizabeth II, who died last year, will be replaced on the new five-dollar bills with a design dedicated to local culture. The Central Bank of Australia announced today that there will be no King Charles note.
The five dollar bill is the only banknote bearing the image of the British monarch in Australia.
According to the Reserve Bank of Australia, Indigenous peoples will be consulted on the design of the new banknote to honor “Indigenous culture and history.”
The design and printing of the new banknote will take “several years”, it still sounds. Banknotes bearing the image of the Queen, who died last September, which are already in circulation, remain legal tender.
