Telenet BASE customers had the best network for mobile Internet last year. This is according to figures from test achats, which have previously carried out more than 25,000 measurements via the BeCover+ application. Proximus and Orange complete the top three. Mijntelco.be checks the results.
To test which operator offers the best mobile network, Test-Achats uses its own application BeCover+. This allows consumers to use their smartphones to measure the mobile internet performance of the network they are surfing on. In this way, the consumers themselves contributed to the measurements.
For the individual measurements, the upload speed, the download speed and the waiting time for loading websites and videos were queried, among other things. Based on this, each active operator received a final score. Telenet beat Proximus in 2022 with a score that was 3 percentage points higher. The year before, Proximus was number one.
Consumers who want to switch to Telenet have a mobile subscription from 20.94 euros per month, as we learn from a comparison on Mijntelco.be.

Satisfaction with the mobile network
Consumers are attaching more and more importance to a good and fast mobile Internet connection. This is a consequence of increasing digitization in recent years, such as the rise of mobile payments.
The same survey shows that consumer satisfaction with the mobile network in general can be improved. Almost 70 percent of the participants stated that they were satisfied.
Quite a few consumers are of the opinion that there is little difference between operators when it comes to mobile Internet coverage. As a result, they hardly compare which mobile phone subscription is most interesting for them depending on their place of residence.

It pays to compare
Not only the network coverage is important, the price also plays a role. Via Mijntelco.be you can compare mobile subscriptions and see which option is the most advantageous for you. Of the three “traditional” players, Orange now offers the cheapest subscription with no discount, GO Light. GO Extreme is the most interesting subscription with the largest volume of mobile data.
savings tip: If we look at the ongoing promotions, Proximus comes up with the best price. For a Mobilus M, Maxi or Unlimited Premium subscription, you currently pay nothing for the first two months.
In addition to these three providers, who also offer fixed-line services in addition to mobile communications, there are operators who only offer mobile services. They are often cheaper. Providers such as Youfone, hey!, edpnet and Mobile Vikings score well in terms of value for money for separate mobile phone subscriptions.
Increased competition
Despite intensified competition between wireless carriers leading to sharper prices, consumers still do not compare enough. Further rollout of 5G will only intensify competition between the three major network operators. The proportion of 5G tests was only 4 percent in the test achats numbers. Despite this, Orange has managed to nestle between Telenet-BASE and Proximus.
Currently only Proximus and Youfone offer private mobile subscriptions that support 5G. You can find the best price without discount at Youfone. A subscription with 200 minutes of talk time and 40 GB mobile data volume costs you 25 euros per month.
Still, few consumers seem to be waiting for another 5G rollout. For many of them, the speed of the 4G network is sufficiently high and few people are willing to pay more for a 5G subscription.
