The smoke from the severe forest fires in Canada has now also reached our country. The above images from the French border in Dunkirk show the sky turning more yellow than usual.
Forest fires have been raging in Canada for weeks. At the end of June, there were at least 81 wildfires in the province of Quebec, 27 of which are still not under control. The fire creates dense clouds with high concentrations of harmful carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter. However, we need not worry here. “In particular, the clouds will be quite high and will not have a critical impact on the air quality at the ground surface,” explains Philippe Maetz, spokesman for the Interregional Unit for the Environment (IRCEL).
