How is the Belgian selection going for the World Cycling Championships? First-time men’s elite Stan Durulf offers a unique insight into these special days.

Another day, another rainstorm.

This time, I was lucky enough to have a delicious cup of hot coffee at the end of the ride. The coffee bar that celebrated Wout’s birthday at the start of our adventure must have already made a good profit from the Belgians.

I sat at the table for a long time today at lunch. We engaged in interesting conversations about agriculture, current affairs and even politics. You can guess who worked on which subject.

I feel ready for the exam, but I still have to wait.

Then it was time to look at the most important thing on the agenda: the course. I love doing it and you learn a lot from it.

In this way, we saw confirmation of our feelings. The race will be a battle of attrition on Sunday. You’ll lose a lot of power along the way, so giving up a solid pouf in the final will be a big challenge.

There was no time to party for another Belgian medal. In the evening the team held a tactical meeting on Sunday’s race approach. I stayed in my room late, so I went to bed right away.

The World Cup can really start now. I feel ready for the exam, but I still have to wait. I am confident that we will have a good race as we have prepared very carefully.

First of all, let’s all support Belgian women tomorrow!
