Passengers who flew from Dubai to Auckland on Friday morning on the Emirates airline are believed to have died. After more than 13 hours of flight, they landed at Dubai airport.
Flight EK448 departed Dubai at 10:30am local time on Friday for Auckland, New Zealand. But almost halfway through the 9,000-mile trip, the pilot decided to turn back over the ocean. The plane had been in the air for seven hours but was prevented from landing in Auckland due to very bad weather. After a good six hours, the Airbus A380 landed again in… Dubai, the airport from where the plane took off.
On Friday and Saturday there was a severe flood at Auckland Airport. “Auckland Airport has investigated the damage to our international terminal and unfortunately has determined that international flights are not possible today,” the airport said in a statement Saturday afternoon local time. “We know this is very frustrating, but passenger safety is our top priority.”
Domestic flights at Auckland Airport will resume on Saturday evening local time, and international flights will resume on Sunday morning. Flight 448 was diverted to Dubai local time on Saturday and landed in Auckland local time on Sunday afternoon.
