In search of the longest possible range, the German ZF came up with an interesting novelty. It introduces heated seat belts that can significantly increase the range of an electric car. What about it?
A large battery pack and efficient electric motors, along with low weight and slippery aerodynamics, are components that automakers use to try to maximize the range of their electric cars. Supplier ZF thinks ahead and has an interesting solution: the heat belt. That’s right, electrically heated seat belts.
No air conditioning required
ZF has developed heated belts that should help further reduce the energy consumption of electric cars. As an electric car driver, you can warm up directly with the heated seat belts without having to resort to the less energy-efficient air conditioning.
Just as secure as normal belts
According to ZF, the range of an electric car can be increased by up to 15 percent – also by using the seat heating. ZF emphasizes that the belts are just as secure as normal seat belts. The company does not say whether there are manufacturers who already want to install the belts.
