Good news for fans of singing nuns because a third Sister Act movie is coming. Whoopi Goldberg, 67, will return anyway but is also hoping to convince Maggie Smith, 88, to get back into the habit. She said so on the talk show Loose Women.
Whoopi Goldberg told the talk show she’s really looking forward to the third ‘Sister Act’ movie. “I really like the script. And you know we’ll all do what it takes. I’m just trying to find a director.” Although a director isn’t the only thing on her wish list. “I wanted to let Maggie Smith know that I’d do the role of ‘Mother Superior’ for you,” Whoopi said. “I can do it nobody but you. So if you want me to come to you for the recordings or whatever, we’ll do whatever you want. But we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”
It’s not clear if the actress will respond to Whoopi’s call. Despite her 88 lengths, Maggie doesn’t appear to be planning to retire just yet. She has two more films in the pipeline and a third may be added. She also has a warm heart for Sister Act. In 2017, as the film celebrated its 25th anniversary, she added, “I can’t believe it’s been 25 years. I want to say hello to all nuns. I feel like I’m the oldest surviving nun. Every nun was great. I have such fond memories of those crazy movies. We laughed and laughed. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years. I send you lots of love and wish I was with you.”
The very first Sister Act film came out in 1992 and told the story of a singer who had to go into hiding in a monastery after witnessing a murder. The second film came out a year later.
