A Canadian jury has found Dutchman Aydin C. guilty of blackmailing Canadian Amanda Todd online. A 15-year-old girl committed suicide in 2012. Her suicide made world news as she bid her emotional farewell in her YouTube video.
Amanda Todd has become a symbol for victims of “sextortion”, the blackmailing of sexually explicit images. A photo was included.
Those photos reached Amanda’s friends via Facebook. Her suicide made global news because she left a video on her YouTube of her screaming in despair.
Dutchman Aydin C. is now convicted of extorting Todd online. He has not been charged with being involved in her death. This man in his 40s was extradited to Canada last year after being convicted of digital stalking and extortion charges in the Netherlands in 2018.
